The Global Academy of Technology Library and Information Center was established in the year 2001 with a modest number of books and other reading materials. The library was initially located in the main building covering 450 sq.mts.

In 2014, the Library was shifted to Annex "B" Block covering an area of 755 sq.mts with two floors. The first floor accommodates the Stack Room and the second floor consists of the Reference Section with 70 seating capacity.

The library has developed a rich collection of more than 35000+ documents including Books, Journals, Project Reports, Digital Library resources and electronic databases.

The library is equipped with LIBSOFT Integrated Library Management System (ILMS) with barcode technology. The Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC) enables users to search library resources inside and outside the campus.

The mission of the library is to provide continuous access to books and knowledge in order to support educational and research activities of the parent institution.

Objectives of Library

  • To develop a collection of documents in print and electronic formats according to the changing needs of users.
  • To support academic programmes by providing required learning resources.
  • To provide guidance to students and faculty members for effective utilization of library resources.
  • To encourage students to develop self-learning skills.
  • To support faculty members in teaching and research activities.
  • To conduct library orientation programmes for students and staff.

Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC)

Students can search and locate required books using OPAC. The catalogue displays details such as accession number, title, author, edition and publisher information.

Users can search resources by title, author name, publisher name, subject or combinations of search terms.

Each student is provided with a unique ID and password to access OPAC facilities and previous year question papers.

IRINS is a web-based Research Information Management System developed by INFLIBNET Centre to showcase scholarly communication activities.

Membership Policy

  • All current students and faculty members are eligible for library membership.
  • Library membership requires a valid institutional ID card.
  • Entry into the library is strictly based on possession of ID card.
  • ID cards are not transferable.
  • Students receive temporary ID cards initially and permanent ID cards after VTU registration.

General Rules & Regulations

  • Entry to library is permitted only with valid ID card.
  • Books must be issued and returned only through circulation counter.
  • Maintain silence and peaceful study atmosphere.
  • Food and beverages are not allowed inside the library.
  • Damage or marking on books is strictly prohibited.
  • Users are responsible for borrowed materials.
  • Mobile phone usage is restricted inside the library.
  • Library resources should not be taken outside without proper issue.
  • Copyright rules must be followed while copying library materials.

Library Orientation Program

The librarian conducts orientation programmes to create awareness among students and faculty regarding library resources and VTU Consortium e-resources.

GAT is recognized among the top 25 colleges under VTU for effective utilization of e-resources through remote access platforms.

Children's Reading Corner

The library introduced a children's reading corner with story books, moral stories, general knowledge books and interesting learning resources to encourage reading habits.

Library Initiatives

NDLI Club at GAT

National Digital Library of India (NDLI) is a virtual repository of learning resources sponsored by the Ministry of Education, Government of India.

GAT NDLI Club was started in 2019 to encourage students in reading and learning activities.

DELNET Membership

The library is a member of DELNET, a major library resource-sharing network that supports sharing of books, journals, articles and academic resources.
